What Is a THC Margarita?

A THC margarita is a non-alcoholic cannabis cocktail built in the shape of the classic. Instead of tequila and orange liqueur, it uses a clearly labeled THC beverage as the active ingredient, then leans on lime, sweetness and salt to carry the familiar flavor.

Easy 5mg THC Margarita Recipe

The lime leads, the agave rounds it out, and the THC serving gets measured before anything else happens.

What You Need

One labeled 1.5-ounce serving of 5mg THC Social Tonic; 1 ounce fresh lime juice; 1/2 ounce agave syrup, plus more to taste; ice; kosher or flaky sea salt for the rim; a lime wheel for garnish.

How to Make It

Run a lime wedge around half of the glass rim and dip that side in salt. Fill the glass with fresh ice and set it aside. Measure the THC Social Tonic with a jigger and add it to a shaker with the lime juice, agave and more ice. Shake firmly for 10 to 12 seconds, then strain over the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wheel and serve right away.

Taste before adding more agave. Two limes from the same bag can pull a drink in completely different directions, and a margarita should finish bright rather than syrupy.

How to Balance Lime, Sweetness and Salt

Fresh lime is sharper than bottled and gives the drink a cleaner finish. Agave dissolves easily, though simple syrup works if that is what is in the fridge. Start with less sweetener than you think you need and add in small amounts, because you cannot take it back out.

Salt belongs on the rim, not in the shaker. It softens the perception of bitterness and pushes the citrus forward. A half rim keeps the choice in your hands rather than committing you to salt on every sip.

The Willie’s base already brings lemon, lime and passionfruit, so there is no call for orange liqueur. If you want an orange note, add a strip of peel as garnish rather than another sweet ingredient competing with the lime.

Serving a THC Margarita Responsibly

Treat one finished drink as one clearly labeled serving. If you are making more than one strength, use different glassware or a different garnish so nobody has to remember which glass is which.
